What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that affects your blood sugar. Usually, food is converted into glucose (sugar in the blood) and used as energy during digestion, and, for it to be absorbed, insulin must be present.

However, at times the body does not produce insulin, or the cells are resistant to the hormone, resulting in glucose build up in the blood which is later excreted through urine, a condition known as diabetes.

  • Symptoms

In some cases, diabetes may present mild or no symptoms at all and diabetes can go unnoticed. Some of the common symptoms associated with type 2 diabetes include frequent urination, intense hunger, weight gain or loss, increased fatigue, increased thirst, blurred vision, and irritability.

Staying Active to Combat Diabetes

Diet and exercise are two of the most effective ways to improve circulation and lessen diabetes symptoms. To keep yourself in the game, try some of these simple and fun exercises on a regular basis.

  • Walking

Walking can be tiring, and so it is recommended that you use orthotics as they help reduce leg fatigue. You will also need to use a good walker to help with stability and balance.

  • Jogging

Regular jogging is a great exercise but should be done in moderation. As you begin with the exercise, make sure you have checked your blood pressure levels.

Don't forget to wear a knee brace to protect your knees and joints from injury.

  • Strength training

The different exercises help to build lean muscle and maintain healthy bones. Strength training should be done after your body gets used to aerobic exercises. To stretch your muscles without lifting a finger, try these massage balls for diabetics to relieve nerve pain in your feet.
